Balmain wunderkind, Olivier Rousteing, is many things, and one thing he is not is subtle. With his Spring/Summer 2017 Menswear collection, Monsieur Rousteing fittingly continued his success streak with clothes inspired by none other than the intense sunsets, rolling waves, and sun-kissed sands of tropical locales during the warmer seasons – or at least the images of them that Rousteing escapes into when he scrolls through his feed during another long night at the office. Vivid oranges, blues, greens, and pinks intertwined with each other in a collection that embodied this aura of 21st-century virtual escapism. Relaxed cuts shown in ponchos, capes, and bombers worked alongside flowing trousers and bedazzled jackets that sparkled almost as bight as a Caribbean sunset. The models (including Vs. cover girl, Sasha Luss) glided down the runway as if their feet were already pushing through piles of golden sand. Now that’s a pretty picture worth escaping into.
