Dame Zaha Hadid was a singular force. The Iraqi-born, London-based architect’s iconic buildings challenge our perceptions, juxtaposing fluid lines with sharp angles and varying dramatically depending on one’s viewpoint. It came as little surprise when beloved Danish heritage brand Georg Jensen, the century-old company known for collaborating with the best of the best across all fields of design, added the Pritzker Prize-winning architect to its long list of collaborators. Sadly, what did come as a surprise was that the project, a jewelry collection that gorgeously embodies Hadid’s aesthetic, albeit on a much smaller scale, would be among her last.

Hadid’s passing brings a melancholic beauty to the collection. The five rings and three cuff bangles mirror the organic shapes found in her buildings, often appearing to float above the wrist or finger in unexpected ways. “Her aesthetic aligned with the history of our jewelry designs, celebrating nature’s seemingly simple yet mathematical forms,” says David Chu, Georg Jensen’s Chairman and Chief Creative Officer. Since its inception, Jensen has reveled in nature as well; today its most recognizable pieces feature the daisy.

Hadid sought to honor the brand’s rich tradition while staying true to her inimitable aesthetic. “There is an inherent integrity with the organic structural logic found in nature, and we often look at the coherence of natural systems when we work to create environments,” she said, when discussing the collection earlier this year. “Our challenge was to translate that into something that can be worn; to reinterpret the rich history and tradition of the Georg Jensen design approach into something new.” Set against the stunning curves of the nude female form, the impact of the jewelry is heightened. These images are a celebration of Hadid’s extraordinary work for Georg Jensen and the beauty of nature and femininity.
